Floor seating remains an important part of Thai culture—from family gatherings to everyday living. Rather than recreating traditional furniture, Kranok explores how these cultural values can be translated into contemporary spaces while respecting modern lifestyles.

The project balances tradition, modern living, and cultural identity, creating a chair that respects heritage while fitting naturally into today's lifestyles.

Design Language

Instead of applying Thai motifs as decoration, Kranok abstracts their rhythm, geometry, and proportion into the furniture itself. The result is a quieter design language that feels contemporary while remaining culturally grounded.

Evolution

From Literal to Minimal

Early concepts relied on literal cultural references. Through iteration, unnecessary details were removed, allowing the form, material, and behaviour to communicate identity more naturally.

Making Process

From Flat Sheet to Structure

A single felt sheet is cut, folded, stitched, and assembled into a lightweight seating system that balances portability, comfort, and durability.

Everyday Use

Living with Kranok

Lightweight and foldable, Kranok adapts to different moments—from reading and studying to conversations and shared meals. Rather than defining a single way of sitting, it encourages flexible and informal ways of gathering.

Reflection

Kranok taught me that preserving culture isn't about repeating traditional forms—it's about translating their values into experiences that remain meaningful today.
